Okay, so Popeye: Rush for Spinach is basically what happens when you take that old-school cartoon energy and cram it into a GBA side-scroller. You’re just sprinting through these chaotic levels, dodging barrels and Brutus popping out of nowhere, all while trying to grab as much spinach as humanly possible. Classic arcade vibes, but with that handheld charm.
At first, it feels simple—just run, jump, punch—but then the game starts throwing weird stuff at you, like random sea creatures or platforms that disappear if you hesitate too long. And yeah, the spinach power-up is as ridiculous as you’d hope. Popeye’s arms turn into these noodly wrecking balls, and suddenly you’re plowing through everything. It’s dumb in the best way.
Not gonna lie, the controls take a second to get used to (why does jumping feel so floaty?), but once it clicks, it’s weirdly satisfying. If you’ve got a soft spot for retro nonsense or just want to see Popeye punch a shark, this one’s a solid time-waster.
