About Pokemon Stadium
Pokemon Stadium was planned for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, but it was never actually released for that console. The game we know as Pokemon Stadium was developed by Nintendo EAD and published by Nintendo, but it arrived later as a flagship title for the Nintendo 64. On the SNES, the main Pokemon experience came from the Game Boy games, which you could play on your television using the Super Game Boy accessory. This was the setup before fully three-dimensional Pokemon battles became possible.
In the N64 version, you do not directly control a Pokemon in the field. Instead, you manage a team of six Pokemon that you import from the Game Boy games. Your main objective is to win a series of tournament cups by defeating other trainers in turn based battles. The signature mechanics are building a balanced team with type advantages, selecting the right four moves for each Pokemon, and then executing your strategy against increasingly difficult AI opponents. The pacing is methodical, focused on tactical decisions rather than quick reflexes, and the difficulty can spike sharply in the later cups. It feels like being a real Pokemon trainer, testing your carefully assembled team against the best.
