Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team came out for the Nintendo DS in 2005, developed by Chunsoft and published by Nintendo. It was part of that early DS wave where developers were still figuring out the dual screen and touch capabilities, but this game largely stuck to a more traditional RPG format. You start by answering a personality quiz, which determines which Pokemon you become; your partner is a different one, and together you form a rescue team.

You control your Pokemon directly, moving through randomly generated dungeons one turn at a time. Your main goal is to take on rescue missions for other Pokemon, which involves navigating multi floor dungeons, fighting wild Pokemon in tactical, turn based combat, and managing a limited inventory. The dungeons reset their layout every time you enter, and if your whole team gets knocked out, you lose all the items and money you were carrying. The pacing can be slow and the difficulty is often unforgiving, especially in later dungeons where a single wrong move can end a long run. It feels like a constant, careful balancing act between ambition and survival.
