Pokémon White Version 2 is one of those sequels that actually feels like a proper upgrade—it takes everything from the first Black & White games and just runs with it. You start off in a new corner of Unova, and right away, there’s more to explore, more Pokémon to catch (including some old favorites mixed in with the newer ones), and tougher gym leaders waiting to wreck your team if you’re not careful.

The graphics got a nice little bump, too—battles feel snappier, and the animated sprites give your Pokémon way more personality. And if you played the first game, you’ll spot some cool callbacks, like how certain towns have changed over time. The story’s still a bit goofy (Team Plasma’s back, somehow?), but the rival battles and post-game content make up for it.

Honestly, if you’ve got a DS and any love for Pokémon, this one’s a no-brainer. Just don’t underestimate the Elite Four this time—they’ve leveled up.
