Pocket Bomberman is this weird little GBC spinoff where our round explosive-loving hero has to fight through 50 levels of blocky chaos. The setup's ridiculous—some villain named Babylon literally stole the sun, so now Bomberman's stuck running through dark caves and ruins, dropping bombs to clear paths and roast enemies.
It plays like a stripped-down version of the classic Bomberman formula, but with this odd RPG-ish twist where you collect power-ups that actually stick between levels. First time I played, I got wrecked by those bat enemies in the second stage because I didn’t realize you could upgrade your bomb range permanently. The music’s surprisingly catchy for a Game Boy Color title, too—that first jungle theme still gets stuck in my head.
Not the deepest Bomberman game, but there’s something satisfying about blowing up walls to find hidden warp zones while dodging those annoying hopping mushroom things.
