Bomberman Max: Blue Champion on Game Boy Color is pure old-school chaos—just you, a grid full of enemies, and way too many bombs. The first few levels ease you in, teaching you to time your explosions so you don’t accidentally trap yourself (which, yeah, happens a lot at first). But once you get the hang of kicking bombs or dropping them in a line, it’s stupidly satisfying to clear a room in one chain reaction.
The pixel art holds up surprisingly well, and the mazes get devious fast—some paths are blocked unless you blow up the right walls, and those little turtle enemies are sneakier than they look. Multiplayer’s where it really shines, though. Nothing beats setting off a perfectly placed bomb that sends your friend flying into another explosion. Classic Bomberman nonsense, just how it should be.
If you’ve got a buddy and a link cable, this one’s a no-brainer.
