Phantasy Star III is one of those weird, ambitious RPGs that tried something different—you play across multiple generations, picking love interests that actually change the next hero’s stats and storyline. The first time I played, I had no idea my choices mattered that much, and suddenly my second-gen character had totally different spells than my friend’s.
It’s got that classic Sega Genesis vibe—chunky sprites, synth-heavy music, and towns that feel way bigger than they actually are. The combat’s straightforward turn-based stuff, but the real draw is seeing how the story branches. Some paths lead to mechs, others to dragons, and the translation’s… charmingly rough in places. Still holds up if you’re into old-school RPGs with experimental twists.
Just don’t expect it to hold your hand—half the fun is stumbling into bizarre secrets the game never explains outright.
