Mutant Virus on NES throws you into the shoes of Ron Trainer, a hotshot debugger who’s basically the IT guy from hell—except instead of resetting passwords, you’re blasting rogue code with a top-down shooter. The setup’s simple: something’s gone seriously wrong at the Central Programming Institute, and of course, you’re the only one who can fix it.
First few minutes? You’re dropped into this neon grid world with these weird, glitchy enemies that look like corrupted sprites. Movement’s a little stiff—classic NES—but once you get the hang of dodging and weaving between shots, it clicks. The virus enemies come in waves, some splitting into smaller bugs when you hit them, others just charging straight at you. Power-ups are scattered around, but good luck grabbing them without getting swarmed.
It’s got that old-school arcade vibe where you’ll die a lot at first, but each run teaches you the enemy patterns. And yeah, it’s single-player only—no co-op to bail you out when things get messy. If you’re into retro shooters with a cyber twist, this one’s a solid time capsule.
