About Moai Kun (japan)
Moai Kun came out in 1990 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, developed and published by Konami exclusively in Japan. It was part of that late NES era where developers were experimenting more with the hardware, creating games that felt distinct from the early platformers that defined the system's launch years.
You control a small Moai statue, hopping from one self contained screen to the next. Your goal is to shatter all the colored blocks on each stage before a timer runs out. The main mechanic involves jumping to hit blocks from below; hitting a block changes its color, and hitting it again after it cycles through its colors makes it disappear. You also use your jumps to stun the wandering enemies, turning them into temporary platforms to reach higher areas. The game demands quick planning because the layouts are often precarious and the timer is strict, creating a constant, pleasant tension. It feels like a race against the clock where every jump has to be deliberate.
