Moai Kun is one of those weird little NES games that somehow sticks with you. You control this tiny, determined moai statue (you know, those big stone heads from Easter Island) that hops around smashing blocks and enemies. The controls are simple—just jump and stomp—but the levels get surprisingly tricky, with hidden paths and some seriously devious enemy placements.
At first glance, it seems like a basic platformer, but there’s a weird charm to it. The music’s oddly catchy, and watching this tiny moai bounce around with such purpose never gets old. Some stages feel like they’re actively messing with you, but in a way that makes you want to try again instead of rage-quit.
It’s not the most famous NES game out there, but if you dig quirky, slightly punishing platformers, this one’s a hidden gem.
