Lethal Weapon on NES is exactly what you'd expect from a late 80s movie tie-in—a rough-around-the-edges beat 'em up where you punch your way through waves of goons. The controls feel a little stiff now, but there's something charming about how straightforward it is: walk right, punch guys, occasionally pick up a knife or gun before some mobster knocks it out of your hands.
You play as Riggs (or was it Murtaugh? Honestly, the sprite could be either), moving through city streets and docks while thugs in leather jackets take swings at you. The hit detection is wonky—sometimes your punches connect when they shouldn't, other times you swear you landed a hit but nothing happens. And don't get me started on the jumping mechanics.
It's not a great game by modern standards, but if you're into retro beat 'em ups, it's an interesting time capsule. The soundtrack tries its best with that classic NES chiptune energy, even if half the tracks sound like someone banging on a keyboard. Just don't go in expecting the movie's charm—this is pure arcade-style brawling with a license slapped on it.
Controls are standard NES fare: Z and X for attacks, arrows to move. You'll get the hang of it in about thirty seconds.
