Legend of the River King 2 is one of those weirdly addictive Game Boy Color gems where fishing somehow becomes an entire RPG. You start off with a basic rod and some lousy bait, tossing your line into these little pixelated ponds—then suddenly you’re knee-deep in fish battles, trying to reel in some absurdly stubborn carp while your line tension meter freaks out.
What I didn’t expect was how much else there is to do. You’ll wander through forests, talk to villagers who give you cryptic hints, and even get into fishing tournaments. The fish get progressively more ridiculous (wait till you see the size of the late-game catches), and the gear upgrades actually matter—none of that fake "bigger numbers" RPG nonsense.
It’s got that classic Harvest Moon vibe where everything feels simple at first, but there’s a surprising amount of depth if you stick with it. Just don’t be surprised when you lose an hour trying to catch that one stupid frogfish.
