Langrisser (or Warsong if you played the US version) is one of those classic tactical RPGs that feels like a mix between Fire Emblem and a medieval fantasy novel. You start off leading a small band of knights and foot soldiers, moving them across grid-based battlefields where positioning actually matters—charge in blindly and you’ll get wrecked.
The Germanic setting gives it a different vibe from most JRPGs of the time—think holy knights, dark bishops, and political intrigue instead of spiky-haired heroes. The religious themes get surprisingly heavy, too, with factions fighting over sacred relics and prophecies. Not bad for a Genesis game.
Early battles feel slow if you’re used to modern SRPGs, but there’s something satisfying about watching your units clump together for defense or flank enemies for that sweet bonus damage. Just don’t expect your archers to survive a cavalry charge.
