Landstalker: Treasures of King Nole is one of those Genesis RPGs that sticks with you—partly because of its weird isometric view that makes jumping onto platforms way harder than it should be. You play as Nigel, a cocky treasure hunter who’s all about gold and sarcastic one-liners. The dungeons are packed with puzzles that’ll make you stop and think (or occasionally throw your controller), and the combat’s simple but satisfying once you get the timing down.
What really makes it special is how it blends action and exploration—you’ll slash enemies one minute, then push blocks or hunt for hidden switches the next. The graphics still hold up, too, with these lush, colorful forests and caves that feel alive despite the pixels. Just don’t be surprised if you spend half an hour lost in some maze-like temple because the camera angle hid a path. It’s that kind of game—frustrating in the best way.
If you’re into retro RPGs with personality, this one’s a gem. Just watch out for the jumps.
