About Karate Kid, The
The Karate Kid came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, published by LJN. It was one of many movie tie-in games from that era, trying to capture the feel of the films on the 8-bit console. This one is loosely based on the second movie, The Karate Kid Part II.
You control Daniel LaRusso, moving him screen by screen through different locations like Okinawa. Your main goal is to defeat your rival, Chozen, which involves traveling through the village, a forest, and a castle. The gameplay mixes exploration with action; you punch and kick through waves of enemies, and you must also complete specific tasks, like finding a drum in the forest or a key in the castle. A unique mechanic is the mini-game where you must balance on a boat in a storm, using the D-pad to keep Daniel upright. The difficulty is relentless, with enemies constantly respawning and precise timing required for the platforming sections and boss fights. Playing it feels like a constant test of your patience and reflexes.
