Joe & Mac on Game Boy is one of those weirdly fun platformers where you play as two cavemen smacking dinosaurs with clubs. The pixel art’s got that chunky, colorful charm—think neon palm trees and goofy-looking T-Rexes. At first, I thought the controls would be stiff, but swinging your club actually feels pretty satisfying once you get the timing down.
You’re mostly jumping between platforms and bonking enemies, but the levels mix things up—jungles, ice caves, even volcanoes where you’re dodging lava. The bosses are ridiculous in the best way, like this one where you’re fighting a giant caveman riding a pterodactyl. And yeah, the whole "rescue the cavewomen" plot is hilariously outdated, but it’s so over-the-top that it’s hard not to laugh.
Co-op’s where it really shines, though. Grab a friend, pick Joe or Mac (doesn’t matter who), and just start whacking stuff together. It’s simple, dumb fun—exactly what you’d want from a 90s arcade port. Just don’t expect deep storytelling between all the dinosaur brawls.
