About Jackal
Jackal came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988, a Konami release during a time when the NES library was full of straightforward action games. It was a port of an arcade title, fitting right in with other military themed shooters of the era.
You control a lone jeep, navigating through enemy territory screen by screen. Your main goal is to rescue prisoners of war held in various camps, moving from the bottom of the screen upward. The jeep can shoot forward with its machine gun and launch grenades in an arc; you often need to use both to deal with ground troops and fortified structures. The game is fast and demanding, with enemies spawning constantly from the edges. Maneuvering your jeep to avoid fire while accurately landing your shots requires quick reflexes. It feels like a tense, constant push through hostile land.
