Ever played dodgeball where the ball could literally catch fire? That’s Honoo No Toukyuuji Dodge Danpei for you—a Sega Genesis/Mega Drive game that turns playground dodgeball into something borderline ridiculous (in the best way). You play as Danpei, some kind of dodgeball prodigy, and yeah, the matches get wild fast.
First thing you’ll notice: the controls are simple—run, throw, catch—but the AI doesn’t mess around. Opponents will fake you out, curve shots, and yeah, occasionally light the ball on fire. The sprite work’s got that classic early ‘90s charm, all exaggerated poses and over-the-top reactions when someone gets nailed in the face.
Multiplayer’s where it really shines, though. Nothing like yelling at your friend after tricking them into catching a slow ball just to whip a fireball at their back. It’s janky, it’s chaotic, and somehow that makes it way more fun than it has any right to be. If you’ve got a soft spot for weird retro sports games, this one’s a hidden gem.
