High Stakes Game

High Stakes on the Game Boy is one of those weird little gambling sims that somehow feels more intense than it should. You start with a tiny stack of chips, and the pixelated dealers don’t mess around—blackjack, poker, slots, all with that classic chunky Game Boy aesthetic. The music’s got this weirdly tense loop that makes losing your last coin way more dramatic than it needs to be.
At first, I thought it was just a basic time-waster, but there’s something weirdly addictive about trying to double down your way out of debt. The controls are simple (A to bet, B to fold—no surprises), but the AI isn’t a complete pushover. You’ll catch the dealer ‘accidentally’ flipping aces way too often.
It’s definitely a product of its time, but if you’re into retro oddballs or just want to pretend you’re hustling in a smoky backroom on a 2-inch screen, it’s got charm. Just don’t expect to walk away rich.
