Heiankyo Alien is one of those weird little Game Boy gems that somehow makes digging holes feel intense. You play as this tiny dude in ancient Kyoto (Heiankyo back then), running around grid-based streets while aliens chase you. Your only defense? Digging pits to trap them—but you've gotta time it just right or they'll climb right out.
The first time I played, I panicked and dug holes randomly, which... didn't end well. Turns out, luring aliens into dead ends before trapping them works way better. The aliens get faster every few levels, and suddenly you're sweating over pixel-perfect movements while this chirpy 8-bit soundtrack mocks your stress.
It's simple, but there's something weirdly satisfying about the rhythm—dash, dig, wait, repeat. And when you pull off a perfect trap chain? Chef's kiss. Just don't blame me when you mutter "one more try" at 2 AM.
