Head On Game

Head On for the Game Boy is one of those simple-but-tough arcade ports that somehow makes dodging obstacles in a maze way more intense than it sounds. You’re just a little car (or maybe a blob? Honestly, the sprite’s kinda abstract) weaving through lanes, grabbing dots while these blocky enemies try to ram you. The controls are dead simple—d-pad and one button—but the maze layouts get sneaky fast.
What’s cool is how it nails that "one more try" feeling. You’ll lose a life because some enemy suddenly reverses direction, groan, then immediately hit start again. The scoring’s basic—grab all the dots, dodge, repeat—but there’s something weirdly satisfying about clearing a maze without getting pinned in a corner. Also, the sound effects are peak Game Boy: crunchy beeps and this weirdly triumphant little jingle when you finish a stage.
It’s not deep, but it’s the kind of game you’ll flip on for five minutes and suddenly realize you’ve been playing for half an hour. Perfect for waiting rooms or pretending to be productive. Just don’t blame me when you start seeing maze patterns behind your eyelids.
