Ghostbusters II on NES is one of those weirdly charming late-80s movie tie-ins where you’re mostly just wandering through sewers blasting ghosts with your proton pack. The controls feel a little stiff now, but there’s something satisfying about the way ghosts explode into little pixelated puffs when you zap ‘em.
You start above ground in the firehouse (with that classic theme song, of course), but most of the action happens in these maze-like sewer tunnels. Vigo’s the big bad at the end, and honestly? He’s way creepier here than in the movie—just this floating scowling face that fills half the screen.
Pro tip: Watch your ammo. The proton streams drain fast, and nothing’s worse than running empty mid-fight while some floating specter slowly drifts toward you. Also, the jumps are weirdly floaty—takes some getting used to.
Controls: Arrow keys to move, Z to shoot, X to jump (good luck with that). If you dig this era of janky-but-lovable movie games, Metal Slug or King of Fighters might scratch that same nostalgic itch.
