Fushigi No Umi No Nadia on the Genesis is one of those weird, charming anime tie-ins that somehow works. You start off exploring underwater ruins with Nadia and her crew, and right away, the game throws these little pixel-art cutscenes at you—kinda janky, but full of personality. The controls take a second to get used to (why does jumping feel so floaty?), but once you adjust, the mix of platforming and light puzzle-solving clicks.
What surprised me was how much it leans into adventure vibes—you’re not just blasting enemies, but poking around shipwrecks and deciphering clues. The music’s got that classic Genesis synth sound, all bubbly and mysterious. And yeah, some of the enemy designs are straight-up bizarre (why is there a giant crab with a top hat?). It’s not perfect—the difficulty spikes hard in later levels—but there’s something endearing about its ambition. If you’re into retro anime games with quirks, this one’s a deep cut worth diving into.
