Flashback is one of those games that sticks with you—part sci-fi thriller, part platformer, with this weirdly immersive rotoscoped animation that makes every movement feel weighty. You play as Conrad, some amnesiac GBI agent in a dystopian 2142, and right off the bat, you're dodging assassins in a rainy city while piecing together what the hell happened to you. The controls take a second to click (hold down to run, tap to roll—sounds simple, but it’s easy to faceplant into enemies at first).
What I love is how it blends adventure game logic with action—you’ll talk your way past guards, solve environmental puzzles, and occasionally blast aliens with a pistol that feels way too satisfying for a 16-bit game. The cutscenes still hold up, too—there’s something about the way Conrad’s jacket flaps as he runs that just works. Just don’t expect hand-holding; this one makes you figure things out the hard way.
It’s basically Blade Runner meets Prince of Persia, if both were obsessed with weird ’90s FMV vibes. Still holds up if you’ve got patience for its quirks.
