Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest Reborn is one of those SNES RPGs that feels like comfort food—simple, straightforward, but with just enough charm to pull you in. You start off with this kid named Benjamin (yeah, not the most epic hero name) who gets tossed into saving the world, and honestly? The game doesn’t waste time pretending otherwise. No convoluted politics here—just swords, spells, and a surprisingly catchy soundtrack.
The combat’s turn-based but way more forgiving than other RPGs from that era. You can see enemy weaknesses right in the menu, which is great because I always forget what’s weak to thunder versus fire. Dungeons are puzzle-heavy, with switches and block-pushing that make you think for a second, but nothing that’ll leave you stuck for hours. And yeah, the graphics got a little polish—colors pop more, sprites are cleaner—but it still feels like that 90s RPG you’d rent from a video store.
It’s not as deep as, say, Chrono Trigger, but sometimes you just want to slash monsters without overthinking it. If you missed this one back in the day, it’s a solid weekend playthrough.
