Double Dragon II on the Genesis is basically the same brutal, side-scrolling brawler you remember from the arcade—just with slightly chunkier sprites and that classic Sega sound chip doing its best. You and a buddy can team up as the Lee brothers, punching, kicking, and elbow-dropping your way through waves of thugs. The controls feel a little stiff compared to modern fighters, but there’s something satisfying about landing a well-timed cyclone kick.
It’s not just mindless button-mashing, either. Some enemies actually block or dodge, so you’ve gotta mix up your moves. And yeah, the story’s paper-thin (revenge, obviously), but who cares when you’re smashing dudes into pits or whipping them with a chain? The two-player co-op is where it really shines—just try not to accidentally punch your friend when the screen gets crowded.
If you grew up with arcade cabinets or just love old-school beat-em-ups, this one’s a solid time capsule. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand.
