Donkey Kong Country on the GBA is still one of the best ways to play this classic. Right from the start, you’re thrown into these lush, detailed jungles—the kind of pixel art that somehow holds up decades later. Donkey Kong feels heavy but satisfying to control, and Diddy’s quicker jumps make some of the trickier platforming sections way more manageable once you switch between them.
The soundtrack’s full of those bouncy, unforgettable tunes (you’ll hum the minecart level music for days). Some of the later stages get brutal—those damn barrel launches over pits still mess me up—but nailing a perfect run feels amazing. And yeah, the Kremlings are as goofy and annoying as ever, especially those guys who pop out of barrels.
If you’ve never played it, this version’s a great way to see why people still obsess over this game. Just don’t throw your GBA when you miss a jump in the ice caves.
