Ah, Famicom Mini 02: Donkey Kong—this one takes me back. You’ve got Mario (back when he was just a carpenter, not a plumber) scrambling up girders, dodging barrels, and trying to rescue Pauline from that big, grumpy ape. The GBA port nails the arcade feel, right down to the way Donkey Kong glares at you before hurling another barrel your way.
It’s simple but brutal—those barrels don’t mess around, and the later stages get downright mean. The first time I played, I thought, "How hard can jumping over barrels be?" Turns out, very. But there’s something satisfying about finally nailing the timing, inching closer to the top while that frantic soundtrack keeps you on edge.
If you’ve never played the original, it’s a weird little slice of history. If you have, well, you already know the mix of nostalgia and frustration waiting for you. Either way, it’s pure arcade chaos in your pocket.
