Devil World came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1984, developed and published by Nintendo. It was part of that early wave of NES games, arriving before many of the system's most famous titles had even been conceived. You control a small green dragon named Tamagon, moving him through single screen mazes. Your goal is to collect all the dots, called crosses, scattered around the layout while avoiding a variety of enemies. The core mechanics are defined by the scrolling playfield, which is constantly pushed by a demon at the top or bottom of the screen; you must navigate the maze before it crushes you against the wall. You can collect bubbles to shoot at foes, and power ups like the super cross make you temporarily invincible. The pacing is relentless because the screen is always moving, forcing quick decisions. Playing Devil World feels like a tense race against a closing trap.
