Oh man, Chaos Engine (or Soldiers of Fortune if you're not in Europe) is one of those classic Genesis shooters that still holds up. You pick from six mercs—each with their own weird quirks, like the Navvie with his dynamite or the Preacher who’s weirdly good with a shotgun—and blast through steampunk nightmare levels full of mutants and mechanical horrors.
It’s got that top-down run-and-gun thing going, but with way more strategy than you’d expect. Some characters are faster but weaker, others tank hits but move like a brick. And if you’ve got a buddy for co-op? Even better, because coordinating who grabs what power-up actually matters. The whole "shut down the Chaos Engine" plot is just an excuse for some of the most satisfying pixel carnage on the system.
Just don’t get too attached to your first pick—you’ll probably restart once you realize how differently each character plays.
