Bubble and Squeak is one of those weirdly charming Genesis platformers that doesn’t take itself too seriously. You control this odd little duo—Bubble’s the round one who can float, Squeak’s the mouse who climbs walls—and swap between them to solve puzzles. At first, it feels like a standard hop-and-bop, but then you realize you’re juggling two characters with totally different movement styles, and suddenly that simple jump over spikes becomes a whole ordeal.
The levels are packed with little gimmicks—conveyor belts, disappearing blocks, enemies that just… look like walking shoes? The art’s bright and cartoony, but don’t let that fool you—some of the later stages get brutal. I remember getting stuck on this one ice level for ages because Squeak kept sliding into pits. Still, there’s something satisfying about finally nailing a tricky section after swapping characters mid-air.
It’s not the most polished Genesis game out there, but it’s got personality. If you like your retro platformers with a side of jank and creativity, this one’s worth a look.
