Bubba'n'Stix is one of those weirdly charming Genesis games that never got enough love. You play as Bubba, this little caveman dude, but the real star is his sentient stick—yeah, you read that right. The stick does most of the work, letting you swing, climb, and even toss it like a boomerang to solve puzzles. It’s part platformer, part strategy, and all kinds of janky in the best way.
The first level throws you right into it—you’re hopping between trees, using the stick to knock down bridges, and figuring out how to outsmart these goofy-looking enemies. The controls take a minute to get used to (why is jumping so floaty?), but once it clicks, there’s something satisfying about the rhythm of it. Also, the music? Surprisingly catchy for a game about a dude and his magic stick.
If you’re into retro games with a weird twist, this one’s a hidden gem. Just don’t blame me when you get stuck on that one puzzle where you have to ricochet the stick off three walls—took me way too long to figure that out.
