Battletoads Double Dragon on Game Boy is basically the weirdest, coolest team-up nobody saw coming. You’ve got the Battletoads—those mutant frog dudes with attitude—throwing down alongside Billy and Jimmy Lee from Double Dragon. It’s like someone smashed two arcade cabinets together and called it a day.
The first level throws you right into it: smashing goons, jumping over pits (because of course there are pits), and figuring out which character feels right. The toads are beefier but kinda slow, while the Lee brothers are quicker—I kept switching between them like an indecisive kid at an ice cream truck.
It’s got that classic beat ‘em up chaos, but with Battletoads’ signature "wait, why is there a speeder bike level now?" energy. And yeah, it’s tough—like, "yell at your Game Boy" tough—but in that way where you keep hitting continue just to see what ridiculous enemy they throw at you next. If you’re into retro brawlers with zero chill, this one’s a time capsule worth cracking open.
