Okay, so Awesome Possum is one of those weirdly charming Genesis platformers that feels like it was cooked up in a '90s Saturday morning cartoon writers’ room. You play as this hyperactive, eco-conscious possum (yes, really) who spins through levels like a furry green tornado, smashing robots and dodging toxic sludge pits. The whole thing’s dripping with environmentalist cheese—Dr. Machino’s goons are literally named things like "Smog Hog"—but it’s so earnest you can’t help but grin.
The controls take a second to click—his spin attack feels floaty at first—but once you get the rhythm, bouncing off enemies and swinging from vines actually feels pretty satisfying. And that soundtrack? Unironically great. The first stage’s music is permanently stuck in my head, and the pixel-art forests have this weirdly cozy vibe despite all the industrial doom. Just don’t expect Sonic-speed precision; it’s more about chaotic, bouncy fun with a side of tree-hugging propaganda. A weird little time capsule, but in the best way.
