Alisia Dragoon is one of those Genesis games that looks like a fantasy anime exploded onto your screen—in the best way possible. You play as this lightning-wielding badass who just casually strolls through monster-filled landscapes while her pet dragon (or wolf, or weird floating orb thing) auto-targets enemies for you. The magic system is simple but satisfying—hold down the button to charge, release to fry everything on screen. Boss fights get wild fast, and some of the later levels have this eerie, almost gothic vibe that sticks with you.
It’s not perfect—the hit detection can be janky, and good luck figuring out the story without the manual—but there’s something about the way the screen fills with chaotic energy blasts that still feels great decades later. If you’re into 16-bit action with a side of weirdness, this one’s worth dusting off.
