Okay, so Aigiina No Yogen looks like an RPG at first glance—you’ve got towns, NPCs, even turn-based combat—but don’t let that fool you. Half the time, you’re jumping across platforms and dodging enemies like it’s some weird hybrid of Castlevania and Dragon Quest. The dungeons are where it gets interesting, with traps and treasure hidden in the most annoying spots (of course).

Fun fact: This was Vic Tokai’s first NES game, and you can kinda tell—some of the controls feel a little stiff, and the translation is… well, let’s just say you’ll be guessing what half the dialogue means. Still, there’s something charming about its weird mix of genres. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand.
