Ah Harimanada is one of those weird little Game Boy gems that never left Japan—a mix of strategy and RPG where you play as a feudal lord trying to unite the country. At first glance, it looks like a standard turn-based thing, but there’s this weirdly addictive rhythm to managing your troops and negotiating with rival clans. The pixel art’s rough but charming, and the music’s got that classic Game Boy chiptune vibe.
You start off with a tiny territory and a handful of samurai, and figuring out who to ally with or betray is half the fun. I remember wasting way too much time just shuffling troops around the map, trying not to get steamrolled by some warlord with better stats. It’s not the deepest strategy game out there, but there’s something satisfying about slowly expanding your influence.
If you’re into obscure retro stuff, this one’s worth a look—just don’t expect an English patch.
