Zoids Densitzu on Game Boy is one of those weird little gems from the late '90s that somehow makes giant robot animals fighting each other feel... kinda tactical? You start off picking your Zoid (I always went with the Liger because, come on, it's a robotic lion), and then it's this odd mix of turn-based strategy and RPG elements. The sprites are tiny but surprisingly detailed for a Game Boy game—you can actually tell the difference between a Saber Tiger and a Godos.
The battles play out on a grid, and positioning matters way more than you'd expect. First time I played, I just charged in and got wrecked by some sniper-type Zoid three spaces away. Learned that lesson fast. There's some light story stuff between fights, but let's be real, you're here to customize your Zoid and watch them scrap. The upgrade system's simple but satisfying—nothing like slapping a new cannon on your mech-cat and seeing it actually show up in battle.
It's definitely a product of its time (the menus are clunky as hell), but if you're into retro mech games or just want something different from the usual Game Boy fare, this one's worth digging up.
