X-Men: The Uncanny on NES is one of those games that feels awesome in concept but kinda brutal in execution. You pick from Wolverine, Cyclops, Nightcrawler, and a few others—each with their own attack and a risky special move that drains health if you spam it. Cyclops’ optic blast shreds robots in the factory level, but good luck if you accidentally burn through your energy and KO yourself.
It’s a side-scroller where you punch, blast, or teleport through waves of enemies to reach a boss, then race back to the start before a timer blows everything up. Sounds cool, right? Except the final level’s locked behind a secret code (because ‘90s games loved that nonsense), and some stages feel like they’re actively trying to annoy you. Play it with a friend for maximum chaos, but maybe keep a walkthrough handy.
