Wurm:journey To The Center Of The Earth Game

So Wurm: Journey to the Center of the Earth is this weirdly cool NES game where the planet’s basically falling apart—quakes, volcanoes, the whole disaster movie setup. You’re Moby, some elite Marine guy, and your job is to pilot this transforming tank-submarine-jet thing called the Wurm into the planet’s core to figure out what’s going on. (Spoiler: It’s not good.)
The Wurm’s the real star here—one minute you’re drilling through rock like a tank, next you’re zipping through lava tubes in hover mode, then suddenly you’re in a full-on dogfight against… whatever the heck lives down there. The controls take a sec to get used to, especially when you’re swapping forms mid-level, but once it clicks, it’s oddly satisfying. Just don’t expect the difficulty to go easy on you—some of those later levels get brutal.
It’s got that classic NES vibe where the story’s basically an excuse to shoot everything that moves, but there’s something weirdly charming about the whole “save the planet by tunneling into hell” premise. If you dig (ha) obscure action games with a side of jank, this one’s worth a look.
