Warlock came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1995, developed by Realtime Associates. It was part of that wave of action-adventure games on the SNES that tried to capture the feel of titles like The Legend of Zelda, offering a large world to explore from a top-down perspective. You play as a sorcerer tasked with stopping an evil warlock who has shattered the world into separate realms.

You control your character screen by screen, navigating maze-like dungeons and outdoor areas. Your main goal is to recover the pieces of an amulet to restore balance. You have a sword for close combat and a bow for ranged attacks, but the unique mechanic is your magic system; you collect different spell books that let you cast offensive and defensive spells, which you must manage alongside your health and magic meters. The game can be challenging, with tricky enemy placements and puzzles that require you to use the right tool for the situation. Moving through its interconnected worlds and steadily building your arsenal creates a satisfying sense of progression as you piece the land back together.
