WCW World Championship Wrestling on NES is one of those weird, janky wrestling games that somehow sticks with you. You pick your wrestler—some legit legends like Vader or the Road Warriors—and then the game makes you choose which moves they’ll actually use in the match. Four out of eight, assigned to the D-pad directions. It’s clunky, but kinda cool—like building your own wrestling toolkit before you even step into the ring.
Funny thing? This was originally a Japanese game called Super Star Pro Wrestling, so some of the WCW wrestlers have bizarre finishers that don’t match their real ones. The roster’s a mix of Japanese icons (Giant Baba, Antonio Inoki) and American stars, which explains why everything feels slightly off in the best way. The sprites are chunky, the controls take some getting used to, but there’s charm in the chaos. If you’re into retro wrestling games, this one’s a weird little time capsule.
