Ever played an NES game that feels like it was designed by someone who only skimmed the X-Men comics? That’s this one. You pick from Cyclops, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, or Colossus—each with their own weirdly unbalanced moves—and brawl through side-scrolling levels full of Sentinels and Brotherhood goons. The controls are stiff, the hit detection’s a joke, and the music sounds like a keyboard demo from 1987. But hey, it’s got that vintage Marvel charm, and there’s something oddly satisfying about watching Wolverine’s claws clip through enemies. Just don’t expect anything close to the Konami beat ‘em ups.
Fun fact: This was the first X-Men game on NES, and it shows. They didn’t even bother releasing it outside North America.
