Turrican on GB is one of those rare Game Boy ports that actually holds up—somehow, they crammed the run-and-gun chaos of the original into that tiny screen without losing the feel. You start off with this weird morph-ball ability (kinda like Metroid, but way more explosions) and just plow through waves of robots and aliens. The music’s surprisingly intense for a handheld, too—those chiptunes slap.
First level throws you right into it: jump over pits, dodge lasers, and figure out when to switch between your spread shot and the laser whip. Took me a few tries to stop falling into bottomless pits, but once it clicks, you’re blasting through like a one-person army. Hidden power-ups are everywhere if you’re willing to risk exploring instead of rushing ahead.
It’s not perfect—some of the platforming’s a little stiff compared to the console versions—but for a Game Boy adaptation? Way better than it had any right to be. Still holds up if you’re into punishing retro action.
