Treasure Hunter G is one of those SNES RPGs that flew under the radar but absolutely shouldn’t have. You play as this kid named G who teams up with his dad (who’s basically Indiana Jones with a sword) to hunt down ancient relics. The twist? You control both characters in battle, switching between them on the fly—which sounds simple until you realize how much it changes up the usual turn-based formula.
Right off the bat, the pixel art is gorgeous—lush forests, creepy caves, and these little animated details like flickering torches that make the world feel alive. Combat’s grid-based, so positioning actually matters, and some enemies will wreck you if you just mash attack. I learned that the hard way when a pack of wolves cornered me in the first dungeon.
It’s got that perfect mix of exploration and strategy, where you’re constantly weighing whether to push deeper into a ruin or backtrack to heal. And the music? Absolute bangers. If you like old-school RPGs with a twist, this one’s a blast. Just don’t blame me when you lose track of time digging through its secrets.
