Okay, so The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles on NES is... well, it’s exactly what you’d expect from a licensed game from that era—which means it’s a little rough around the edges, but weirdly charming if you’re into retro stuff. You play as Indy (the younger version, obviously), swinging your whip at enemies and jumping over pits in these side-scrolling levels that feel like they were designed by someone who only half-remembered the movies.
The controls take a second to get used to—Z for whip, X for jump—and the hit detection is, uh, generous at best. But there’s something fun about the janky platforming and the way Indy just sort of flails when he falls. Also, the music’s got that classic NES vibe, all bleeps and bloops trying really hard to sound adventurous.
Honestly, it’s not a hidden gem or anything, but if you’re nostalgic for early ‘90s licensed games or just want to see Indy awkwardly shuffle through ancient ruins, it’s a weird little time capsule. Just don’t expect it to hold up like Super Mario Bros. 3 or anything.
