Man, Tecmo Super Bowl III on SNES still holds up. The second you boot it up, you're hit with that chunky 16-bit menu music and those bright, blocky team logos. I always go straight to the Raiders first—no shame, their speed is just unfair.
What I love is how it nails that arcade football feel without being too simple. You've got actual playbooks to flip through, audibles to call, and those satisfying QB scrambles when the pocket collapses. The running game feels weighty, like you can almost feel the linebackers breathing down your neck when you cut left at the last second.
It's not perfect—the passing can feel a little floaty compared to modern games, and good luck stopping the computer on 4th down. But that jank is part of the charm. You'll be yelling at the screen when your receiver drops a wide-open bomb, then immediately rematching because you know you can do better. This is the kind of game where "one more quarter" turns into three hours gone.
If you've got an SNES collecting dust, dig it out for this one.
