Syndicate on SNES is one of those games that feels way ahead of its time—you’re basically running a cyberpunk hit squad in a world where mega-corporations call the shots. At first, it seems like a straightforward top-down shooter, but then you realize there’s this whole layer of strategy: upgrading your agents with cybernetic implants, bribing officials, and even brainwashing civilians into fighting for you. The controls take a second to get used to, but once you figure out how to toggle between weapons and squad commands, it clicks.
The atmosphere is what really sells it—gritty neon-lit cities, civilians screaming as gunfights break out in the streets, and this constant tension where any mission can go sideways fast. I remember my first playthrough, thinking I could just brute-force my way through, only to get wrecked by enemy syndicates with better tech. You learn quick that sometimes the sneaky approach—like hacking turrets or sending in a mind-controlled cop—works better than going in guns blazing.
It’s not perfect (the AI can be a little janky), but there’s nothing else quite like it on the SNES. If you’re into dark, tactical sci-fi, this one’s still worth digging up.
