Super Robot Taisen J is one of those GBA strategy RPGs that just oozes mecha nostalgia. You start by picking between two pilots—each with their own story—and then get to choose your starter robot. I went with the Gundam SEED option first, but honestly, the Mazinger Z route hits different when you’re plowing through enemy squads with a rocket punch.
The battles are classic grid-based SRPG stuff, but with flashy animations that make every attack feel weighty. And yeah, team-up attacks are as satisfying as you’d hope—nothing like seeing your favorite anime robots combo an enemy into scrap metal. The missions can get pretty tough later on, but unlocking new mechs (including some deep cuts from series like Layzner) gives you a reason to replay.
Oh, and the soundtrack? Absolute bangers from the original anime. Just don’t blame me if you start humming the G Gundam theme for days.
