Super Ninja Boy on SNES is this weird little gem that mixes side-scrolling beat-em-up action with light RPG stuff—like if Final Fantasy and Double Dragon had a ninja-themed baby. You start off with basic punches and shurikens, but pretty soon you're leveling up, unlocking wild ninja magic, and hopping between overworld towns and combat zones.
The pixel art holds up surprisingly well, especially the way your character flips around when jumping. Combat feels a little stiff at first (those early enemy hitboxes are brutal), but once you get the rhythm down, chaining moves together feels great. Also, the soundtrack slaps—expect lots of synth flutes and aggressive bass lines.
It’s not the deepest RPG or the smoothest action game, but there’s something charming about how it mashes everything together. Just don’t expect a serious story—half the dialogue feels like it was translated through three layers of fax machines.
